Point Breeze / Oak Orchard fishing charters
Captains troll here in spring, and anglers wade the creek in autumn. Point Breeze sits at the mouth of Oak Orchard Creek, one of the most productive tributaries on the American shore. That gives the port two separate seasons, each with its own kind of angler.
The water
What Pt. Breeze is good for
In spring the creek plume warms the shallows, draws bait and holds brown trout close to shore. April and May are for boats, with captains fishing eight to thirty feet of water using boards and small lures. The first kings show up on the temperature break by mid-May.
By late August the fish start moving toward the creek. Mature Chinook stage off the mouth and then run up the creek. From September into November, Oak Orchard has one of the heaviest salmon runs in New York. Steelhead follow the salmon, and the creek fishes well through the winter and again in March and April.
Point Breeze is worth booking twice. A spring trip and an autumn trip out of the same harbor are completely different.

How it's fished

Spring nearshore
From April into June, captains run planer boards and stickbaits in 8–30 FOW along the Oak Orchard plume for brown trout.
Summer offshore
In July and August, captains fish for kings the usual way, with riggers and divers on the thermocline over deep water.
Creek season
Anglers fish Oak Orchard Creek for fall salmon and winter steelhead, from drift boats or on foot.

Spring or autumn, which should I book?
Book autumn if you want the biggest fish and don't mind crowds. Book spring if you want comfortable weather, short runs and steady action. If you can only pick one and it's your first time, book the fall run.
Is the fall creek fishing from a boat or on foot?
Both work, and guides here do both. A drift boat covers more water and gets you away from the crowds on the bank. Wading costs less and works well if you know where to stand.
How does Point Breeze compare to Pulaski in October?
Pulaski is bigger, better known and far more crowded. Oak Orchard has a strong run with much less fishing pressure, so a lot of repeat visitors prefer it.
Is Point Breeze / Oak Orchard on Lake Ontario?
Yes. Point Breeze / Oak Orchard is on the New York shore of Lake Ontario, which U.S. charts renamed Lake America on 27 August 2026. Canadian maps, older guidebooks and most anglers still use the old name, so you will see both. The fish, ports, captains and New York fishing license rules are the same.
